INDIANAPOLIS, March 4 (UPI) -- A disappointing debut in Indianapolis led to veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson's early departure from the Colts.

The Colts told Johnson they were releasing him, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Johnson, 34, signed a three-year, $21 million deal last March. The deal included $10 million guaranteed and would have paid Johnson $5 million next season, with a $2.5 million roster bonus.

Last month, the Indianapolis Star's Stephen Holder said that he "hears" Johnson wants to play next season.

Johnson had 41 receptions for 503 yards and four scores last season. Those numbers were career lows for Johnson, during a season in which he played nine or more games.
