CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Just because there is no photographic evidence available, does not mean that Carolina Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton didn't dab upon the delivery of his son.

Newton's longtime girlfriend delivered a baby boy over the Christmas holiday. The quarterback made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter.

"My longtime girlfriend and I were extremely blessed to have a son last week. Our family is excited and thank you all for the well wishes," Newton said.

Newton, 26, has completed 275-of-470 passes for 3,544 yards, 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing for eight scores and 626 yards. He has become the frontrunner in the conversation for the NFL most valuable player award while leading the Panthers to an 11-1 record.

The Panthers, who lost for the first time last week to the Atlanta Falcons, look to avenge the loss at 4:25 p.m. Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Charlotte.

Congratulations to Cam Newton & his family!

After his original tweet, Newton said: "I've been quiet about this because I didn't want to create a distraction for my team and appreciate the privacy in this joyous time."
