NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Multiple reports of Odell Beckham Jr. winning his Wednesday appeal proved to be false.

After a tweet by ESPN's Ron Jaworski claimed that the 23-year-old superstar had successfully appealed a one game suspension, various other outlets later released that the suspension had been upheld.

Beckham was suspended Monday for his role in several altercations with Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman.

Beckham will now sit out Sunday night's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

The New York Giants playmaker appealed the suspension in an appeal hearing Wednesday in New York before James Thrash, a hearing officer appointed by the league and the player's union.

Jaworski stepped back from his original tweet saying he was "waiting on official release on Beckham Jr." His sources appear to be wrong.

Beckham issued an apology after the announcement.

"I appealed my suspension because it is a right granted to all players under the NFL's CBA and because I owe it to my teammates to do everything I can to be on the field this week. Regardless of the outcome of my appeal, I apologize for my actions on Sunday. I work hard to be great and accepting the Blessing of having the physical skills to play at this level brings the responsibility to conduct myself in a certain way on and off the field. Sportsmanship and respecting the game are as important as blocking, running routes and catching the football. I dropped the ball on sportsmanship on Sunday."

"I apologize to my teammates, the Giants organization, and to all fans of the NFL," Beckham said.

Norman was also punished for his role in the boxing match, taking an $8,681 facemask fine and a $17,363 fine for striking an opponent in the head/neck area. Norman is also appealing, according to NFL.com.

Beckham has 91 receptions for 1,396 yards and 13 touchdowns this season.
