NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Anxious fantasy football owners and New York Giants fans combed keyboards Wednesday, trying to find out if they would watch Odell Beckham Jr. take the field this weekend.

After an appeal hearing, ESPN's Ron Jaworski gave those people hope with one tweet: "BREAKING NEWS: Odell Beckham suspension to be OVERTURNED! (Per sources in NYC) Wow!"

Jaworski's report was eventually refuted, as multiple sources reported the suspension to be upheld.

Jaworski eventually deleted his Beckham Jr. related tweets, opting for an apology.

Beckham Jr. was suspended for one game Monday for actions against the Carolina Panthers' Josh Norman.

The 23-year-old superstar drew several flags, and enormous attention, for unnecessary roughness, including an unobstructed helmet-to-helmet hit, on Norman during the 38-35 loss.

Beckham appealed the suspension in an appeal hearing Wednesday in New York before James Thrash, a hearing officer appointed by the league and the player's union.

Jaworski followed his tweet Wednesday saying "Sorry, Still waiting on final OFFCIAL release on OBJ. I'll leave the reporting to our true pro insiders @mortreport and @AdamSchefter."

Former Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes also tweeted that Beckham's suspension was overturned, before Jaworski's tweet.

Jaworski gave his opinion about the most notable Beckham hit on a weekly radio appearance.

"I've been around the NFL as a player for 17 years," Jaworski said on the show with Mike Missanelli on 97.5 FM The Fanatic in Philadelphia. "As an ESPN analyst for 25 years. I've been around this game for 42 years of my life. I have never seen anything like that. It was God awful.

"Josh Norman was stung. Who knows. He might even be concussed right now from the shot that he took. Who knows what will happen to him down the road. It was an awful, awful play by Odell Beckham Jr."

Former star NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew spoke to TMZ Sports Tuesday about Beckham Jr.

"It's football man," Jones-Drew said. "It's a contact sport. Things happen. He lost his composure yes, but if you are going to suspend one, you should suspend everybody with the same situation."

Norman was fined $26,044 by the league for his role in the sparring match.

ESPN's Adam Schefter included a tweet Wednesday that said: "Based on everything said today, still would be a major upset if Odell Beckham Jr's one-game suspension is overturned."
