EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- If you've spotted Brandon Marshall at camp this season, you should have noticed a bit more material hanging from his already imposing physique.

His New York Jets jersey fits less snugly this season as the result of the 21-Day Fix, a diet he heard about from an infomercial on television.

"We were like, 'That's pretty cool,'" Marshall told NJ.com's Darryl Slater Monday.

Marshall and his wife, who were vacationing with family in St. Barts, both took on the diet.

Marshall is now down to 230 pounds, or 13 pounds lighter than his frame when the Chicago Bears traded him to the Jets.

"Today I was 230," Marshall told the New York Daily News' Seth Walder. "I've been playing the last couple years around 236, but I came in this offseason at 243. Really wasn't focused on losing it until the end of OTAs."

Marshall, 31, also told NJ.com that his wife lost 20 pounds.

Part of the reason for Marshall's weight gain before camp was the result of living with Geno Smith, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

"Geno had a lot of pizza at his house," Marshall told Cimini. "Young guys."

"I heard Michael Strahan, in his Hall of Fame speech, say when you get older, you've got to lose a little pounds," Marshall told Cimini. "I think they say for every pound (of body weight) equals five pounds of pressure on your joints. So (losing weight) is great for recovery. I think that's the key, fighting inflammation in the body. When you can do that, recovery is night and day."

It remains to be seen if Marshall's lighter frame will result in faster routes, but the wide receiver believes that he is on a healthier road.

"I wanted to get down to like my rookie weight," Marshall told NJ.com. "You get older."

Marshall has 773 receptions, 9,771 yards and 65 touchdowns in 136 games in nine seasons for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.
