SEATTLE, May 4 (UPI) -- Seattle linebacker Bruce Irvin didn't hold much back when he found out the Seahawks weren't going to pick up his fifth year option.

Irvin took to Twitter Sunday, ranting about the move, that would have paid him $7.8 million if the Seahawks chose to pick up the option.

If the Seahawks don't sign the 2012 first round draft pick to an extension, he will be a free agent after this season.

"Worked for everything I got in my life this (expletive) will b no different! I earns my keeps!" Irvin tweeted.

"Faced way tougher adversity getting outta them streets coming up! That's (expletive) is nothing! (Expletive) THAT OPTION!" he continued. "I am a Seahawk! #12thman"

"Im a very blunt person and that won't ever change sorry if u dislike it," Irvin added.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has expressed his intentions to keep Irvin around.

"If we pick up Bruce's option it's a great thing, if we don't pick up Bruce's option it only means we aren't picking it up... We want him to be here for a long time," Carroll told the Seattle Times.

Irvin, 27, has 74 tackles, 16.5 sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, and two touchdowns in 43 career games in Seattle. Irvin will make $1,663,935 this season.

"We met with Bruce yesterday before we got going, and it went very well," Carroll said. "We discussed what our plan is and what we are planning on doing, still knowing that maybe something could happen that could change the decision. It has nothing to do with the statement of how we feel about him in our program. We expect him to be here for a long time and we will work to get that done."
