Convicted rapist Sharper could get plea deal of 9 years, penile monitoring

By Alex Butler

NEW ORLEANS, April 11 (UPI) -- Former NFL star Darren Sharper was sentenced to nine years in federal prison last Monday, but when he gets out, more punishment is waiting.

According to the New Orleans Advocate, Shaper will have sex offender treatment, can't drink alcohol for the rest of his life, go to bars or liquor stores, visit sex shops, chat online to get a date, or spend the night away from home or travel more than 50 miles.

Sharper will also take lie detector tests and be subject to the "penile plethysmograph," where a sensor is attached to his penis while sexual images flash in front of his eyes to gauge his arousal, according to the Advocate.

If Sharper fails to comply, he would serve at least another 14 years in prison in Arizona and/or Louisiana. If he gets out again, he would face the same conditions.

Sharper has faced cases of drugging and rape in Louisiana, Arizona, California and Nevada, from nine different victims.

In California, Sharper originally faced a maximum of 33 years, after being sentenced to 20 years.

Two New Orleans judges will now decide whether to approve the deal instead of issuing a 20-year sentence in Louisiana, according to Deadspin.

Sharper has been in jail in Los Angeles since Feb. 27. After completing parole, Sharper will move to Arizona.

Shaper, 39, played 14 seasons in the NFL and last signed in 2010 for $1.5 million and a $75,000 in New Orleans.
