NFL suspends blackout rule for 2015 season

NEW YORK, March 24 (UPI) -- The NFL owners have voted to suspend television blackouts for game for the 2015 season as an experiment from a policy in place since 1975.

The policy allows the NFL to blackout games from local television if the home game does not sell a certain number of tickets. The FCC has withdrawn its support for the rule but the NFL can still legally enforce it.

In 2014, there were not blackouts due to enough ticket sales. However, in previous years, teams lost games to blackouts.

League spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed the news on Twitter.

NFL clubs have approved suspension of local blackout policy for 2015 pre- and regular seasons. There were 0 BOs last reg-season.

The NFL "will evaluate the impact of the suspension after the season" to see the impact on the game's broadcasting.
