Sources refute reports that Adrian Peterson requested a trade to Dallas

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Disgruntled All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson has requested a trade from the Minnesota Vikings to the Dallas Cowboys, according to Bleacher Report.

But multiple sources refuted the report Sunday. "Sources said reports are inaccurate that the Texas native is seeking a trade to the Dallas Cowboys," reports the Pioneer Press.

"Adrian Peterson wants to go to Dallas," Jason Cole said in his report. "The Minnesota Vikings are aware of that. In talking to a high level NFL executive; everybody knows what everybody wants. But the Vikings will not, do not want to trade him in any way, shape or form - specifically not to the Cowboys. Don't expect that to happen; at least from their (Vikings) end. There's a lot here to play out, but the Vikings do not want to send him to the Cowboys."

Peterson, who admitted to whipping his 4-year-old son last May with a tree branch, can apply for reinstatement to the NFL April 15. Peterson plead no contest in November to misdemeanor reckless assault.

ESPN's Josina Anderson tweeted that a "Source w/ knowledge of the sit'n just sent this: "Adrian Peterson has not asked for a trade to the #Cowboys and has not had any conversations with (Vikings GM) Rick Spielman."

The native Texan missed the last 15 games of 2014 after his indictment.

Last Thursday, the 29-year-old said he was still deciding if he wanted to play in Minnesota next season.

"My wife [and I], we've had several conversations about me returning to Minnesota, what the best options are," Peterson told ESPN.com. "If I left it up to her, I'd be somewhere else today, and that's with her weighing everything. It's a lot for me to weigh; she understands that. But there are some things that I'm still uneasy about."

Peterson has scored at least 10 touchdowns in each of his seven full seasons, before playing in just one game last year.

Peterson told Fox Sports earlier this month that he "of course" wants to play with the Vikings next season.

Peterson is not allowed to speak with Spielman while on his suspension. The Vikings star signed a seven-year, $96 million contract in September 2011, with $36 million guaranteed. He is due to make $12.75 million next year, $14.75 million in 2016, and $16.75 million in 2017 before becoming a free agent in 2018.

Pro Bowl running back DeMarco Murray led the NFL with 392 carries and 1,845 yards last season, but needs to re-sign with the team. Owner Jerry Jones said that if Murray does return, he wont have a similar workload.

"I don't think we would go into a season now with Murray thinking that he was going to have the load that he had last year," Jones said Saturday in Indianapolis, according to ESPNDallas.com. "I don't believe we would."
