GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- What's in a number? The Seattle Seahawks are seeing dollar signs. The Seahawks are working to trademark the word "boom," the phrase "Go Hawks," and the No. "12," according to the Seattle Times.

The Seahawks have filed about 24 trademark applications since October 2014, wrote Mike Baker.

Baker wrote that the organization has fought fans, businesses and a former Seahawks player over the use of its words and phrases.

"Just in the past few months, the Seahawks have petitioned the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a chance to oppose a film company's application to trademark a geographical name featured in the blockbuster "Hunger Games" books and movies: "District 12," Baker wrote.

Last year, Forbes reported that in 2006 Texas A&M filed a trademark lawsuit against the Seahawks from the team's use of the "12th Man" phrase. The lawsuit was settled, with the Seahawks paying the school $100,000 and a $5,000 annual licensing fee for five years. The Seahawks renewed the agreement in 2011, to run through 2016.

The team is not allowed to sell mearchandise featuring "12th Man," but is allowed to raise its "12th Man" flag at the start of every game. The flag allowed to have the No. "12" on it but not allowed to say "man," Baker wrote.

The No. 12, which, ironically, is worn by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, is the object in Seattle's sights. After winning the Super Bowl last year, the Seahawks won approval to trademark the design on the "12" flag, but have since been turned down on two other applications to trademark the number.

The Patriots have trademarked the phrases "the Patriot Way," "Do Your Job," and "Next Game Up," according to Forbes.

Super Bowl XLIX will kickoff at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 1 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
