July 20 (UPI) -- Charlotte Hornets star Miles Bridges faces two felony charges of child abuse and another felony count of injuring a child's parent, Los Angeles County district attorney George Gascon has announced.

Gascon said Tuesday that his office filed the felony domestic violence charges. Bridges, 24, was arrested June 29 and released later that day on $130,000 bail. He was arrested on a domestic violence warrant.

According to the criminal complaint, the alleged assault on Bridges' girlfriend "happened in front of their two children on or about June 27 and 28."

"Domestic violence creates physical, mental and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors," Gascon said in a statement.

"Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process."

Bridges' arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday at the airport branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The case is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department's West Los Angeles branch.

Bridges averaged a career-high 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in 80 starts last season for the Hornets. The No. 12 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft is a restricted free agent who was expected to receive major interest this off-season on the open market.

The Hornets extended a qualifying offer for Bridges before his arrest. A criminal conviction is not required for a player to receive discipline for a violation of the NBA's domestic violence policy, and players can be placed on administrative leave while the league investigates accusations.

"We are aware of the charges that were filed against Miles Bridges," the Charlotte Hornets said in a statement Tuesday. "These are very serious charges that we will continue to monitor. As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time."
