June 20 (UPI) -- Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid was fined $35,000 for "escalating the on-court altercation" between himself and Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins during Game 6 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series, the NBA announced.

In a statement released Sunday, the league said Embiid's fine was for going after Collins "in an unsportsmanlike manner and failing to comply with an NBA security interview following an on-court incident."

The scrum occurred with about four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of Friday's Game 6 when Embiid fell onto Collins' legs after an offensive foul as he was attempting to score. Collins pushed Embiid off him, which led to Embiid walking into Collins with his arms outstretched.

Embiid and Collins went toward the stanchion, with teammates from both clubs trying to separate them. Hawks reserve center Bruno Fernando then exited the bench area during the scuffle, which took place near Atlanta's sideline.

The league said Fernando was suspended without pay for Sunday's Game 7 in Philadelphia for leaving the bench area during the incident. The suspension will cost him $10,469 in salary.
