June 7 (UPI) -- The NBA has fined Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey $75,000 for violating the league's anti-tampering rule.

The league said in a statement Monday the fine was in response to a Twitter post from Morey last week in which he wrote "join 'em" above a screenshot of an Instagram post from Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.

In the social media post, Curry was praising his brother, Seth Curry, who currently plays for the Sixers. The post came in the wake of Seth Curry scoring a playoff career-best 30 points in Game 5 of the 76ers' first-round series against the Washington Wizards.

Morey attempted to explain his post in a subsequent tweet, writing that he was "talking about the fact that we are thrilled [Seth Curry] is here with the @Sixers -- nothing else!"

Under league rules, NBA executives are prohibited from talking about players on opposing teams. The league also said the 76ers organization was fined $75,000 due to Morey's "conduct."

Stephen Curry, who is eligible to sign a four-year, $215.4 million extension this off-season to remain with the Warriors, led the NBA in scoring this season. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2021-22 campaign.

The 76ers beat the Wizards in five games to advance to the Western Conference semifinals. Philadelphia suffered a 128-124 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in Game 1 of that series Sunday, with Seth Curry scoring 21 points in 36 minutes.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series between the 76ers and Hawks is scheduled for Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
