May 30 (UPI) -- Lakers star big man Anthony Davis was forced to miss the second half of Los Angeles' 100-92 loss to the Phoenix Suns in Game 4 on Sunday because of a groin injury.

League sources told ESPN and The Athletic that Davis avoided a serious injury and will be day-to-day with a strained left groin. According to the outlets, the eight-time NBA All-Star selection has a chance to play in Game 5 in Phoenix.

Davis missed a layup with under a minute left in the second quarter and collapsed to the floor after landing. He was slow to get up and grabbed at his groin area while play continued on the other end of the court. He didn't return to the game after halftime.

"You know, he's one of the best players in the world, so you have to adjust," Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said of Davis after the game. "And I thought we gave great effort trying to overcome that loss, but it certainly wasn't enough."

Lakers star LeBron James had 25 points, 12 rebounds and six assists over 38 minutes in the loss. Veteran center Marc Gasol chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Kyle Kuzma added 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting.

Alex Caruso finished with 10 points for the Lakers, who were attempting to win their third straight game to take a 3-1 series lead.

"For me, it's putting our team in position to be successful," James said when asked if he was prepared to assume a larger role if Davis is limited moving forward. "It starts with my approach, my accountability, trickles down to everybody else.

"So, you know, these shoulders are built for a reason. If it takes for me to put some more on top of it, then so be it. Win, lose or draw, I'm ready for the challenge."

Suns point guard Chris Paul led the Suns with 18 points and nine assists. Devin Booker and Jae Crowder each added 17 points, and Deandre Ayton recorded 14 points and 17 rebounds.

The best-of-seven series is tied 2-2. Game 5 is on Tuesday.
