May 28 (UPI) -- Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant has officially been ruled out for Game 1 of the NBA Finals as he deals with a strained right calf.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr announced Durant's status on Monday. The Warriors battle the Toronto Raptors at 9 p.m. on Thursday at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

"K.D.'s not playing Game 1," Kerr said told reporters. "I think we already announced that, and we'll see where it goes from here. This is where the fact that there's a lot of days in between games during the Finals helps us, so we'll see."

Kerr also said that the team has yet to determine if Durant will travel to Toronto. Durant sustained the injury during Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. He did not play in the Western Conference finals.

Warriors big man DeMarcus Cousins is questionable for Game 1. Cousins is recovering from a torn left quad.

Game 2 of the NBA Finals tips off at 8 p.m. on Sunday in Toronto.
