Philadelphia 76ers' Jimmy Butler: 'I will get max contract anywhere I go'

May 14 (UPI) -- Philadelphia 76ers star Jimmy Butler is confident he will earn a maximum contract regardless of the team for whom he chooses to play next season.

"Technically I think, knock on wood, I will get a max contract anywhere I choose to go," Butler told reporters during his exit interview Monday. "So if you are talking a four-year, five-year, that is more than enough money, anyway. I think I still have more than enough money now from my first deal."

According to HoopsHype, Butler earned about $19.8 million this year and is scheduled to earn the same amount next season. He has a player option that he is expected to decline, making him a free agent July 1.

Butler would be eligible to sign a max deal of five years and $188 million if he decides to return to the 76ers. He can make only $141 million in four years if he signs with another team.

Despite his plan to decline his player option for next season, Butler said he enjoyed his time with the Sixers and will sit down with his team to discuss the off-season.

"I haven't thought about it too much," Butler said. "I mean I've got to sit down and really talk to my team. Not like the team here with the organization. We're going to sit down and we're going to talk about it and figure it out from there."

Philadelphia acquired Butler in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. The 76ers traded Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless, Robert Covington and a 2022 second-round pick to land him.

The 76ers lost in the second round of the NBA playoffs for the second consecutive year. The Toronto Raptors defeated Philadelphia in seven games to reach the Eastern Conference finals.

In 12 postseason games, Butler averaged 19.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists. Against the Raptors, he was the Sixers' leading scorer with 22 points per contest.
