Dec. 24 (UPI) -- LeBron James issued an apology one day after quoting song lyrics on his Instagram, which referenced "Jewish money."
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar posted "We been getting that Jewish money, everything is Kosher" on Saturday on his Instagram account. The words are lyrics from the song ASMR by 21 Savage. His post prompted some backlash on social media.
James -- who has more than 110 million followers on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook -- apologized for the comment on Sunday after the Lakers' 107-99 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
"Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone," James told ESPN.
"That's not why I chose to share that lyric. I always [post lyrics]. That's what I do. I ride in my car, I listen to great music, and that was the byproduct of it. So I actually thought it was a compliment, and obviously it wasn't through the lens of a lot of people. My apologies. It definitely was not the intent, obviously, to hurt anybody."
James' Lakers face the Golden State Warriors at 8 p.m. on Christmas at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
