Wizards' John Wall puts Lakers' Lance Stephenson in spin cycle

Dec. 17 (UPI) -- John Wall went coast to coast and put Lance Stephenson in a spin cycle before hitting a layup during the Washington Wizards' win against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Wall pulled off the athletic maneuver with about five minutes remaining in the opening quarter of the Wizards' 128-110 victory on Sunday at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. He scored a season-high 40 points and had 14 assists, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks in the triumph.

The Wizards were defending at the start of the prolific sequence. LeBron James sent a pass inside to rookie center Moritz Wagner. Wagner caught the feed and took a step toward the rim, but Troy Brown Jr. knocked the ball out of his hands.

Brown handed the ball off to Wall, who scorched up the court. Wall dribbled past half-court before nearing the 3-point line and coming up on Stephenson. He used his right arm to push off on the Lakers defender, while going into a spin and leaving him in the dust.

Wall finished off the play by jumping into Josh Hart and bouncing the ball off the backboard for two points. He fell to the ground following the effort.

"We just came out with a lot of energy," Wall told reporters. "We did a great job on both ends of the floor, knocking down shots and being aggressive. Being aggressive defensively also."

James had 13 points, six rebounds and three assists in the loss. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the Lakers with 25 points. Stephenson netted 12 points in the loss.

The Wizards battle the Atlanta Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The Lakers face the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
