Stephen Curry answers fan request, adds girls' section to shoe store

Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Stephen Curry granted a 9-year-old girl's wish by adding an option to buy his shoes in the girls' section on the Under Armour website.

Chris Morrison posted a message on Twitter and Instagram on Nov. 18, featuring a letter written by his daughter Riley.

Riley -- who shares a name with one of Curry's daughters -- is from Napa, Calif. She wrote the letter about her Golden State Warriors fandom and about starting a new basketball season. Riley asked her dad for the new Curry 5 shoes, but was disappointed when they visited the website and there were not Curry 5's available in the girls' section. The shoes were for sale in the boys' section.

"I know you support girl athletes because you have two daughters and you host an all girls basketball camp," Riley wrote. "I hope you can work with Under Armour to change this because girls want to rock the Curry 5's too."

Chris Morrison asked actress Emma Watson for a retweet and received thousands of social media interactions for the request.

Curry responded on Thursday.

"I appreciate your concern and have spent the last two days talking to Under Armour about how we can fix the issue," Curry wrote in a letter posted to social media. "Unfortunately, we have labeled smaller sizes as 'boys' on the website. We are correcting this now! I want to make sure you can wear my kicks proudly -- so I am going to send you a pair of Curry 5's now and you'll be one of the first kids to get the Curry 6."

"Lastly, we have something special in the works for International Women's Day on March 8, and I want you to celebrate with me! More to come on that, but plan to be in Oakland that night! All the best! #RuinTheGame."

Morrison responded by thanking Curry, saying he "just made one little girl so happy."

The WNBA also thanked Riley for speaking up for all young girls. The Under Armour website now features a girls' section for the kicks.

Curry has been sitting out with a groin injury, but is expected to return to action when the Warriors face the Detroit Pistons on Saturday in Detroit. The two-time NBA MVP is averaging 29.5 points, 6.1 assists and five rebounds per game this season.
