De'Aaron Fox dunks over Heat for Kings victory

Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Sacramento Kings rookie De'Aaron Fox made the game-winning basket with a dunk in the closing seconds against the Miami Heat.

Fox, who scored 14 points in the game, saved his best play for last during the Kings' 89-88 victory Thursday at AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.

The Kings trailed 88-87 with about three seconds remaining in the contest.

Guard Bogdan Bogdanovic dribbled into the elbow on the right-hand side to begin the Kings' possession. Bogdan missed a tough shot, which bounced off of the rim several times as three Heat players waited for a defensive rebound.

But Fox showed much more effort on the play. The guard sprinted in from beyond the 3-point arc. He caught the ball and dunked it over the Heat defenders for the go-ahead points.

"Buddy [Hield] had it going. Bogdan is one of our best playmakers and we had it in his hands," Fox said after the game in his interview with NBC Sports California. "For me, a lot of times, the play isn't even drawn up for me. I kinda just go do what I gotta do and just try to get it done."

"[Bogdan] pulled up, and for the most part as a guard I'm just supposed to get back. But that was possibly the last shot of the game and I just went up and crashed the glass ... The trajectory of the ball, it came off the rim perfectly and I went up there and got it."

Hield led the Kings with 24 points. He also had five rebounds and made four 3-pointers.
