Kyrie Irving: Boston Celtics star embarrasses Los Angeles Lakers with handles

Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Point guard Kyrie Irving showed off his ball-handling skills in an impressive display against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Boston Celtics star scored 19 points and had six rebounds and five assists Wednesday in a 107-06 win at TD Garden.

But it was what he did in the lane and open court which impressed fans the most.

Irving, widely known as one of the best ball handlers in the league, got it going early. He netted a floater at the 10:48 mark in the first quarter over Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball. He drove the lane on the play, going to his right, and running by Ball. He then bounced off of Ball and lofted a shot over the rookie and center Brook Lopez. His swish put the Celtics in front 4-2.

He took on Ball and Lopez again with 5:38 seconds remaining in the first frame. On that play he crossed up Lopez before drawling the defense of Ball. He then went back to his left hand, making the Lakers defenders collide.

Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope also raised his hand to defender Irving, but the Celtics guard put the ball up in the air with both hands and attacked the rim, putting the shot in off of the backboard.

Irving took advantage of poor defense from Ball and Lopez all evening. He came back several times in the fourth quarter. On one play he took Lopez to the hold before shifting hands for a reverse layup around several Lakers defenders.

"As you see, some things just happen," Irving said after the game, according to the NBA Twitter account. "Got our big fella, our OG down...Al Horford. Shot like crap from the field but we got great teammates like we have in this locker room right here. Resilient throughout the whole entire game. Makes my job a lot easier to just go out there and be myself."

Horford suffered a concussion in Monday's game against the Atlanta Hawks. He did not play in Wednesday's game.
