Jeremy Lin is expected to miss the rest of the 2017-18 season after the Brooklyn Nets said he sustained a ruptured patella tendon of the right knee in Wednesday night's regular-season opener against the Pacers in Indiana.

Lin was injured on a drive to the basket during the fourth quarter of the Nets' 140-131 road loss to the Indiana Pacers and had to leave the game. He limped back to the locker room under his own power after initially being assisted.

"Jeremy worked tremendously hard during the offseason and in training camp and was excited for the prospects of the team this season," Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement. "We feel awful that the injury will cost him the season, however our entire organization will be there to support Jeremy in every way possible throughout his recovery. Jeremy remains an important part of this team and will continue to contribute in a leadership role."

ESPN's Adriam Wojnarowski reported Wednesday night that there was fear among team officials that Lin's knee injury was "significant".

"Gods ALWAYS faithful and in control," Lin wrote on Twitter after the game.

Before exiting the game, Lin totaled 18 points and four assists in 25 minutes. He is in the second season of a three-year, $36 million contract he signed with Brooklyn before last season.
