Sept. 23 (UPI) -- NBA superstar LeBron James responded to President Donald Trump's un-invite of Stephen Curry to the White House by calling him a "bum" on Twitter.

President Trump took to Twitter early Saturday morning to write that Stephen Curry is no longer invited to visit the White House to celebrate the Golden State Warriors' NBA title. The Warriors beat James' Cleveland Cavaliers in June for their second championship in three years.

"Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!" Trump wrote in his tweet.

James responded to the move less than three hours later on his own social media account. The message is now his most-retweeted tweet of all-time, with nearly 400,000 retweets as of Saturday afternoon. It has more than a million interactions overall.

"U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite," James tweeted. "Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!"

Curry told reporters Friday that he was not going to the White House.

"My views haven't changed at all. I don't know if anybody's changed. But that's where I stand right now," Curry told reporters at Warriors media day.

"I don't want to go. That's my nucleus of my belief."

The Warriors responded to Trump's tweet with a statement.

"While we intended to meet as a team at the first opportunity we had this morning to collaboratively discuss a potential visit to the White House, we accept that president Trump has made it clear that we are not invited. We believe there is nothing more American than our citizens having the right to express themselves freely on matters important to them. We're disappointed that we did not have an opportunity during this process to share our views or have open dialogue on issues impacting our communities that we felt would be important to raise.

"In lieu of a visit to the White House, we have decided that we'll constructively use our trip to the nation's capital in February to celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion - the values that we embrace as an organization."

The Warriors visited the White House on Feb. 4, 2016 under President Barack Obama to celebrate their 2015 NBA Finals victory against the Cavaliers.
