Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James breaks Internet by calling Los Angeles 'home'

By Alex Butler

Aug. 10 (UPI) -- NBA superstar LeBron James referred to Los Angeles as his "home" in a tweet, creating a Twitter tornado.

The 'King' is no longer on his "Zero Dark Thirty-23" playoff mode, which is a social media blackout. That means everything he tweets is taken literally, because it's 2017.

James, 32, is due $33.2 million this season. He has a player option for $35.6 million in 2018, the year he also can become a free agent. James bought a home in Los Angeles' Brentwood neighborhood in 2015. He sold his mansion in Miami that same year. Fans reading the tealeaves were given an inch when James dropped another possible "hint" Wednesday on the social media platform.

The Twitterverse took it a few miles.

"Man I need some run!! Where y'all hooping at?? Off season please hurry up and end, I have basketball Jones," James tweeted.

"Come to the city," Dorell Wright responded. "Best runs in the world. Los Angeles."

"I'm back in the city in a couple weeks, y'all still gone be running?" James responded.

"You know Seattle would love to have you bless @thecrwasover," Jamal Crawford wrote to James.

The Crawsover League is a Seattle Pro-Am.

"May have to make a day trip up there when I'm back home in LA bro," James responded.

While James likely meant nothing remarkable by his "back home in LA" talk, the Internet was #triggered.

Memes of a perplexed Batman and a depressed Elmo filled the conversation. SpongeBob Squarepants ran around in circles.

James is entering his 15th NBA season and 11th season overall with the Cavaliers. Last season he led the NBA in minutes played per game (37.8).
