Free-agent point guard Derrick Rose and the Cleveland Cavaliers are in serious talks on a potential one-year contract, ESPN reported on Thursday.

Rose has met with several teams over the past three weeks, including the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers.

The former top overall draft pick and 2011 NBA MVP is believed to be offered a minimum contract for $2.1 million, according to ESPN.

Rose averaged 18 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists on 47 percent shooting in 64 games for the New York Knicks last season. The 28-year-old was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Bulls, but the 2016-17 season ended in another injury as Rose hit free agency for the first time.

Rose's career has been scarred by injury to the extent that he said in March he expects only a short-term deal in free agency.

On April 2, he was ruled out for the season with the Knicks due to torn meniscus cartilage in his left knee.

He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and twice required surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee with the Bulls.
