July 8 (UPI) -- Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne received support and hate for her comments regarding Lonzo Ball's signature shoes.

Dell Donne tweeted late Friday that she thought it would be funny if the Los Angeles Lakers rookie blew out his pricy kicks.

"How great would it be if @ZO2_ blew out his shoe in his first summer league game? should have gone with @Nike," Delle Donne tweeted.

The tweet has more than 3,500 likes and 1,300 retweets.

Ball's shoes retail for $495. They didn't help him much in his Lakers debut, as he shot 2-for-15 from the floor in the team's 96-93 summer league loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

"Did I just see a shoe malfunction?! I think sooooo," Delle Donne continued Friday.

After noticing the criticism, Delle Donne referenced LaVar Ball's "stay in your lane" quote.

"I know I know everyone. Stay in my lane, I'm a woman. #sorrynotsorry," Delle Donne tweeted.

Delle Donne's Mystics teammates defended the superstar.

"Y'all better hop off my girl @De11eDonne! Y'all hurt because she called out those bum BBB shoes? #tellemEDD#theyfakekobesanyway #byepeople," Natasha Cloud tweeted.

"I'm over here dying @De11eDonne tweets," Ivory Latta tweeted. "That girl crazy."

Delle Donne is sponsored by Nike. Her Nike Hyperdunk 2016 EDD LMTD shoes retail for $85 on the Nike website.

Delle Donne is a three-time All-Star and was the 2014 WNBA MVP. The 27-year-old is averaging 19.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season.

On Saturday, Delle Donne explained that she wasn't hoping for a Lonzo Ball injury, but saying she just didn't care for his signature shoe.

"No one is rooting for the downfall of @ZO2_ you all are trying to make this something it's not. I actually like him. But not his shoe," Delle Donne tweeted.

"Also if you're an athlete or have any common sense you know that we blow out shoes all the dang time. I know what you all are trying to do," she added.

Ball notched a triple-double Saturday in the Lakers' 86-81 loss to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
