Golden State Warriors sign Omri Casspi

July 5 (UPI) -- With a world championship in hand, the Golden State Warriors are looking toward the 2017-18 season. The franchise recently signed forward Omri Casspi.

Casspi, 29, had a career-low 3.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game last season in 13 contests for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The eight-year veteran was the No. 23 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. His best season came in 2015, when he posted 11.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Sacramento Kings.

League sources told ESPN on Tuesday that Casspi's new deal is for one year. He signed for the veteran minimum of $2.1 million, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Casspi gives the Warriors yet another 3-point shooter off of the bench.

After agreeing to deals with Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Andre Iguodala, the Warriors still have Zaza Pachulia, JaVale McGee, Ian Clark and James Michael McAdoo left unsigned.

Casspi is a 36.7 percent career 3-point shooter. He hit 40 percent of his shots from distance during the 2014 and 2015 seasons with the Sacramento Kings. Now that he's joined the Warriors, Casspi has been on four teams in two seasons, including the Kings, New Orleans Pelicans and Timberwolves. He has also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets.
