Los Angeles Lakers hoping for head-to-head workout between Lonzo Ball, De'Aaron Fox

May 18 (UPI) -- There is little doubt that a freshman phenom will join the Los Angeles Lakers on June 22, but the franchise reportedly wants a workout before it takes Lonzo Ball.

A league source told Draft Express Wednesday that Ball is still the "heavy favorite" for the No. 2 pick, but the franchise also wants to look at Kentucky guard De'Aaron Fox. The report stated that the team is "hoping" for a head-to-head workout.

Washington's Markelle Fultz is the consensus projection for the No. 1 overall pick for the Boston Celtics. Lonzo's father, LaVar Ball, maintains that his son will only workout for the Lakers.

On Wednesday, LaVar Ball told Colid Cowherd on The Herd that his son "ain't scared of nobody."

The 19-year-old All-American averaged 14.6 points, 7.6 assists and six rebounds per game in 36 college contests for the Bruins. But Ball shrank in the biggest game of the season, scoring just 10 points in its Sweet Sixteen loss on March 24 to Kentucky. Fox exploded in that contest with 39 points, four assists and three rebounds.

"Go ahead," Ball told Cowherd. "He ain't scared of nobody. You want to work them out one-on-one, then you're going to see what really goes on. I hope the reporters and all the news is in there. De'Aaron Fox had one game for 39 points. Who else did he do that? You're going to justify his whole career on one game against Lonzo?"
