March 13 (UPI) -- Virginia McLaurin celebrated her 108th birthday Monday at the LAMB Public Charter School in Washington, D.C.

While meeting the Harlem Globetrotters is nothing new to McLaurin, learning how to do their tricks was definitely a first. McLaurin, who also spent her 107th birthday with the team, learned how to spin the ball on her finger.

She was also elated to see a female member of the team, Hoops Green. Green joined Buckets Blakes to bring in a new year for McLaurin. The Globetrotters also donated 108 tickets in her name to underprivileged youth for when the team plays this weekend at the Verizon Center.

Green is the 15th female member of the Globetrotters in its 91-year history. The Globetrotters also spoke to students about McLaurin's positive attributes. McLaurin met with President Barack Obama last year.

The Globetrotters play Friday and Sunday at Eagle Bank Arena and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Verizon Center.

The first female Harlem Globetrotter joined the team in 1985.

"It's beautiful for them to play together," McLaurin said of Green. "When I came along, you couldn't play with boys even in school."
