New York Knicks waiving Brandon Jennings after he asked to play for 'playoff team'

Feb. 27 (UPI) -- In today's NBA, Brandon Jennings might have gotten what he asked for.

The New York Knicks will waive 27-year-old point guard Monday, according to reports. Jennings was averaging 8.6 points and 4.9 assists per game this season on a $5 million salary. After averaging 17 points and 5.7 assists per game in his first four seasons for the Milwaukee Bucks, Jennings has seen a huge decline in production. He averaged 14.1 points in 3 ½ seasons for the Detroit Pistons, but averaged just 7.0 points in 25 games last season for the Orlando Magic.

Jennings told the Knicks that he "wanted to play for a playoff team," according to ESPN's Marc J. Spears.

"Brandon Jennings is another player who resists the triangle," Charley Rosen wrote for Fanragsports.com. "Indeed, Jennings only wants to do what he does best, i.e., run screen/rolls. His erratic play has also made him a profound disappointment."

The Knicks are expected to fill Jennings' roster spot with guard Chasson Randle, according to The Vertical.

"Thank you to all the Knicks fans for the love all year long, and thanks to my teammates and the organization," Jennings wrote on Twitter.

"Playing in the Mecca was an amazing experience and I'm looking forward to being back on the court soon playing the game that I love," Jennings tweeted.

Randle, 24, averaged 5.3 points in eight games this season for the Philadelphia 76ers.
