Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Lou Williams might have played himself out of the Staples Center.

The shooting guard is averaging a career-high 18.5 points per game through 57 games for the Los Angeles Lakers, while earning just one start. His point total leads the team.

According to HoopsHype's Alex Kennedy, the Lakers have "shopped Williams and seem likely to move him prior to the deadline." An opposing general manager confirmed the report.

The 30-year-old could fit in nicely for a team looking for an off-the-bench playmaker, such as the Cleveland Cavaliers who are said to be looking for exactly that. Williams also has a cap-friendly contract, making $7 million annually through next season. He scored 29 points in the Lakers' 97-96 loss Tuesday to the Sacramento Kings.

"I just hoop, and I let the powers that be deal with that," Williams told reporters after Tuesday's loss. "I'm a little old-school in my approach. I play for the team that I have the jersey on for. I don't really deal with hypotheticals, so if something happens, it happens, if it doesn't, it doesn't, and I'm gonna compete for the Lakers."

The NBA trade deadline is set for Feb. 23. Last week, ESPN's John Ireland confirmed the report of the Lakers' activity, saying: "I know they're talking to a lot of teams." He also said he thought the Lakers would "probably" make a trade before the deadline.

The super sixth-man spent the first seven years of his career with the Philadelphia 76ers. He joined the Atlanta Hawks in 2012, the Toronto Raptors in 2014, and signed with the Lakers in 2015.
