Mike Dunleavy finally dropped his buyout demand on Monday, and he plans to report to the Hawks, multiple media outlets reported. The swingman's arrival would complete Atlanta's trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Assuming Dunleavy passing his physical with the Hawks, that would clear the way for Kyle Korver to make his debut with the Cavaliers against the Jazz on Tuesday night in Utah.
Cleveland acquired Korver, a veteran shooting guard, in a trade with the Hawks on Saturday, sending Dunleavy, Mo Williams, a protected first-round pick and cash considerations to the Hawks.
Dunleavy initially balked at reporting to Atlanta and sought a buyout to a contract that pays him $4.9 million this season and also includes partially guaranteed $5.2 million final season in 2017-18.
The Hawks, on the other hand, wanted to keep Dunleavy on the roster to offset the departure of Korver.
The 6-foot-7, 212-pound Korver started 21 times and appeared in 32 games with Atlanta this season, producing averages of 9.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 27.9 minutes. He is shooting .889 from the foul line and .409 from 3-point range.
Korver, 35, is making $5.2 million this season in the final year of his contract.
The 6-9, 220-pound Dunleavy, acquired by Cleveland in a trade with the Chicago Bulls last summer, played in 23 games (two starts) for the Cavaliers this season. Dunleavy, 36, averaged 4.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in 15.9 minutes.
Williams, 34, hasn't played this season due to a knee injury, and he is all but officially retired.
