Miami Heat to retire jersey number of Shaquille O'Neal

The Miami Heat will retire Shaquille O'Neal's No. 32 jersey in a halftime ceremony during a Dec. 22 game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

O'Neal will become the third player to have his number retired by the Heat, joining Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway.

O'Neal spent 3 1/2 seasons during his Hall of Fame career in Miami and helped the team to its first NBA championship in 2006. He is the Heat's all-time leader in field-goal percentage (.596) and is third in scoring average (19.6 points).

Miami won three straight division titles after acquiring O'Neal from the Lakers on July 14, 2004.

O'Neal led the NBA in field-goal percentage in 2004-05 (.601) and 2005-06 (.600). He averaged 18.8 points, nine rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 40 playoff games with the Heat.
