David Lee could return to Golden State Warriors

OAKLAND, Calif., July 6 (UPI) -- Golden State still has room in its budget to bring in some prized pieces at low prices.

One of those slots could be filled by former All-Star David Lee.

Lee, 33, played for the Warriors from 2010 to 2014. He spent last season in Boston and Dallas, averaging 7.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He earned a championship ring for his efforts with the Warriors in 2014.

On Tuesday, when asked if he would take a pay cut to return to the Warriors, Lee told TMZ Sports: "We're still trying to figure it out."

"Everything goes from what K.D. did and that kind of sets the table for the rest of the league," Lee said.

The Warriors signed center Zaza Pachulia, a former teammate of Lee's, Monday on a $2.9 million deal. A minimum deal for Lee would come in at about $1.5 million.

In May, Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle spoke of Lee's importance to the team.

"You know, we acquired David Lee two months ago," Carlisle told Mavs.com. "I don't remember the exact date, but when you acquire a player like that that's been a two-time All-Star and has been in some successful organizations, you know, you want him to have a great experience," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle explained during his exit interview last month. "He did, and he helped us get to the playoffs. We wouldn't have got to the playoffs without David Lee, and the word spreads. You know, veterans like him know other veterans, and the word gets out that Dallas is a high-level organization. And we take great pride in that."
