OAKLAND, Calif., July 4 (UPI) -- One week after LeBron James' 'decision' to join Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat, Kevin Durant tweeted his disapproval for joining superteams.

On Monday, Durant joined the best regular season team in NBA history, with the league's most valuable player.

And fans on social media took aim at the former Oklahoma City Thunder star.

"Now everybody wanna play for the heat and the Lakers? Let's go back to being competitive and going at these peoples," Durant tweeted July 16, 2010, following James decision to leave Cleveland. His mentions ignited with 'friendly' reminders of his six-year-old words.

He also said: "this free agency stuff is gettin outta hand...it's like a episode on HBO."

The 'free agency stuff' is what Durant has been doing since July 1. The former MVP has been wined and dined by the league's elite franchises. He then shunned the city that welcomed him to the league in 2007.

"I'm from Washington, D.C. originally, but Oklahoma City truly raised me," Durant wrote for the Players' Tribune. "It taught me so much about family as well as what it means to be a man. There are no words to express what the organization and the community mean to me, and what they will represent in my life and in my heart forever. The memories and friendships are something that go far beyond the game. Those invaluable relationships are what made this deliberation so challenging."

Durant leaves Russell Westbrook for three of the top 17 players in the NBA, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard's 2016 rankings. Westbrook was ranked No. 5, in his own right.

Durant, 27, joins the core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green to make a great four-some of under 30-year-old players.

Several NBA players and media personalities also had strong reactions, via the Twittersphere.

Things could get really interesting next summer, especially if the highly-favored Warriors disappoint again in the NBA Finals. Durant can opt out of the $54.3 million deal after this season and look for other options. Westbrook is also poised for free agency that same summer.
