Ben Simmons hopes to be drafted by Los Angeles Lakers for shoe deal

By Alex Butler

NEW YORK, May 17 (UPI) -- A shoe deal sits at the top of Ben Simmons' wish list, according to The Vertical.

Sources told the Yahoo Sports website that the projected No.1 NBA Draft pick and agent Rich Paul plan to wait until Tuesday's draft lottery to decide on which shoe brand to sign with.

The 19-year-old averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists last season at LSU. He currently has five-year deals on the table from Adidas and Nike. Nike offered Simmons $7.5 million, while Adidas offered $10 million with a $2 million signing bonus and $1 million bonus for being named Rookie of the Year.

Nick DePaula of the Vertical wrote that Simmons and his representation were not satisfied with the Nike offer and hope that if the Lakers get the top overall pick "Nike will move closer to matching Adidas' offer."

The Lakers have almost a 20 percent chance of landing the top selection in Tuesday's lottery. Draft Express projects Duke's Brandon Ingram to be selected with the top selection in the 2016 NBA Draft and has Simmons slotted at the No. 2 selection.
