Washington Wizards' John Wall supplies area youth with school essentials

By Alex Butler

WASHINGTON, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Earlier this week, it was LeBron James funding more than 1,000 scholarships. Now it is John Wall's turn to treat the youth.

The Washington Wizards' star point guard assisted, providing back packs full of supplies to almost 300 elementary and middle school students during his foundation's "Back 2 School" event. The event took place Saturday at the FBR Branch of the Boys & Girls Club in Washington.

"These kids might be excited to see me, but I'm more excited to see them," Wall told the Washington Post. "They put a bigger smile on my face knowing that I'm making their day or their year."

Wall also recently held a "Back 2 School" event in Raleigh.

He also recently told CSN Washington's Ben Standing that he likely would not make the Team USA roster.

"I'm just being honest," Wall told Standing. "Chris Paul has already won one (Olympic gold medal). Steph Curry had an amazing last year and just won the World Cup. Kyrie just won the World Cup. Russell will probably be on the team. They'll use him as a two-guard."

"So, I probably won't make it."

Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin and San Antonio Spurs big man LaMarcus Aldridge also recently supported similar events to Wall.

"We're just trying to help the kids get started off with school right," Aldridge said. "This is a new community for me, so I want to get off to a good start." Aldridge said, according to CBS Sports.

James' partnership with the University of Akron will provide a four-year scholarship to that school for students in his "I Promise" program.
