Aug. 25 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Indians placed right-handed pitcher Triston McKenzie on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to shoulder fatigue.

Before his placement on the IL, McKenzie dominated in his previous two starts, allowing just one run and three hits with 19 strikeouts over 15 innings.

Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti told reporters that McKenzie's placement on the list is a precaution, and he expects McKenzie's stay on the IL to be short.

"He feels good overall," Antonetti said. "He feels really good coming into the ballpark today, but we thought it made sense for a lot of reasons to give him some time."

McKenzie retired the first 23 batters during his start against the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 15 before giving up a two-out single in the eighth inning to Harold Castro. In his next start against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday, he allowed just two hits across seven innings.

The 24-year-old McKenzie has shuffled between the majors and Triple-A Columbus this season. The rookie has a 3-5 record and 4.83 ERA over 19 games with the Indians.

Cleveland has brought McKenzie along slowly since selecting him in the 2015 draft. He didn't pitch in 2019 because of shoulder problems, making his MLB debut last season.

In a corresponding roster move, the Indians recalled left-hander Logan Allen from Columbus.
