Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder.

The 25-year-old Peralta exited his start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night after an awkward swing on a strikeout in the top of the third inning. He appeared to wince as he made his way to the dugout, and he didn't return to the mound for the bottom of the third.

Peralta allowed five hits and three runs in that game, which the Brewers eventually won 6-4 in 10 innings.

"You know, I don't like to be on the [injured] list, but it's a decision we took, 'Couns' and I," Peralta told reporters. "We'll start a strength program and see how everything goes. I don't think that it's going to be long. For me, probably the regular 10 days, maybe 11. I'll be good soon."

Peralta, who was an MLB All-Star for the first time this season, has a 9-3 record and 2.45 ERA across 23 games (22 starts) for the Brewers in 2021. He has a career-best 164 strikeouts over 121 1/3 innings.

Also Thursday, the Brewers recalled left-hander Hoby Milner from Triple-A Nashville and sent first baseman Daniel Vogelbach to Nashville on a rehabilitation assignment.
