San Francisco Giants sign SS Brandon Crawford to 2-year, $32M extension

Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The San Francisco Giants signed Brandon Crawford to a two-year, $32 million contract extension that will keep the All-Star shortstop with the club through the 2023 season.

Under the agreement, the 34-year-old Crawford will earn a $16 million base salary in both 2022 and 2023. He was in the final season of a six-year, $75 million deal that he signed in November 2015.

"I'm really happy, really excited," Crawford told reporters Friday. "My family is obviously very happy. This is the only organization we've ever known. They've always taken such good care of me and my family. We're just happy to know that we're going to be here for a couple more years."

Crawford has a career-best .296 batting average with 19 home runs and 69 RBIs this season. The three-time Gold Glove Award winner earned his third All-Star selection this summer.

This is Crawford's 11th season with the Giants, and he was part of the franchise's 2012 and 2014 World Series championship teams. He captured Gold Gloves from 2015-17 and a Silver Slugger Award in 2015.

In 1,400 career games in San Francisco, Crawford has recorded a .253 batting average with 125 home runs, 633 RBIs and 41 stolen bases.
