SF Giants to become 1st MLB team to wear rainbow "Pride" uniforms

June 2 (UPI) -- In a first for Major League Baseball, the San Francisco Giants will soon wear rainbow-themed uniforms to honor the LGBTQ+ community.

The uniforms include a patch that incorporates the 11 colors of the LGBTQ+ rainbow flag. The team will also wear its traditional "SF" logo with the colors.

The uniforms will be worn throughout June, which is Pride Month. The Giants are the first Major League Baseball team to use the rainbow colors in their uniform.

"We are extremely proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community as we kick off one of the best annual celebrations in San Francisco by paying honor to the countless achievements and contributions of all those who identify as LGBTQ+ and are allies of the LGBTQ+ community," Giants President and CEO Larry Baer tweeted in a statement.

The Giants will unveil the uniforms in a home game against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.

Some of the game's proceeds will be donated to the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Celebration Committee.

"I'm very proud that the San Francisco Giants are taking this step," team manager Gabe Kapler told MLB. "I'm very, very proud to be a part of it, and looking forward to the impact and the support that we can provide for the LGBTQ+ community."
