May 17 (UPI) -- Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Huascar Ynoa will be out for a "couple of months" after suffering a broken right hand when he punched the dugout bench in frustration, manager Brian Snitker said Monday.

Snitker said Ynoa's hand was hurting on the team's flight back to Atlanta, which led to tests that revealed the fracture.

Ynoa became frustrated after giving up five runs and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings during the Braves' 10-9 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. He punched the padded dugout bench after being pulled from the game.

"It's going to be a couple of months, probably, that he's going to be down," Snitker told reporters Monday. "Then, [he's] going to end up having to get built back up. I hate to see that. The young guy was doing so good. It's going to be a big loss for us.

"... I knew he had done it and it was sore, but in the flight it started bothering him more. They checked this morning and it was a fracture. It's a shame."

The 22-year-old Ynoa, who has a 4-2 record and 3.02 ERA, has the lowest ERA and most wins on the Braves' staff this season. He gave up only one earned run in his previous three starts before Sunday's outing.

Atlanta recalled right-hander Edgar Santana from Triple-A Gwinnett when Ynoa was placed on the injured list.

The Braves also promoted rookie left-hander Tucker Davidson from Triple-A. He is expected to start Tuesday's second game of a three-game series against the New York Mets. Left-hander Jesse Biddle was designated for assignment.
