July 28 (UPI) -- New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia has been placed on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation, the team announced Sunday.

Sabathia, who turned 39 this month, is 5-6 with a 4.78 ERA this season. He allowed five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

The Yankees recalled infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. Wade hit .204 with five RBIs in 20 games for the Yankees earlier this year.

Right knee inflammation cost Sabathia nearly two weeks in late May. He has only made 17 starts this season after averaging 29 outings a season from 2015 to 2018.

Sabathia's injured list stint comes as Yankees pitching has allowed eight runs in six of their last seven games. Sabathia surrendered six home runs in 8 1/3 innings this week in losses to the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.

Sabathia is 0-2 with a 7.17 ERA in four July starts.

New York enters play Sunday with a 66-38 record. The first-place Yankees have an eight-game lead over the Red Sox in the AL East Division.
