Oakland Athletics to acquire pitcher Jake Diekman from Kansas City Royals

July 27 (UPI) -- The Oakland Athletics have agreed to acquire left-handed pitcher Jake Diekman from the Kansas City Royals.

ESPN and MLB Network reported the teams made their second trade in two weeks. Oakland acquired starting pitcher Homer Bailey from the Royals on July 14.

The Royals are expected to acquire two Minor League prospects in return, according to MLB Network.

Diekman is 0-6 with a 4.75 ERA in 48 games this year. He has struck out 63 hitters and walked 23 in 41 2/3 innings.

Diekman is 14-21 with a 3.87 ERA since debuting with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2012.

Oakland entered play Saturday with a 58-47 record. The Athletics are 1/2 a game behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the American League's second Wild Card spot.

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is Wednesday.
