May 23 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox turned the first triple play of the 2019 season in the third inning against the Houston Astros on Wednesday night.

With runners on first and second, Astros speedster Jake Marisnick hit a laser ground ball down the third-base line. White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada, playing close to the bag, stepped on third for the first out and threw to Yolmer Sanchez at second.

Sanchez caught the low throw and relayed to first, where the ball barely beat the speedy Marisnick.

It was the White Sox's first triple play since July 8, 2016, against the Atlanta Braves. The Astros last hit into a three-out play last season against the Seattle Mariners.

Chicago defeated the Astros 9-4 on Wednesday. Eloy Jimenez hit two home runs and Charlie Tilson cranked a grand slam in the victory.

The White Sox and Astros conclude their four-game series Thursday night. Houston beat the White Sox in the first two games of the set.
