Yankees swing trade for Oakland first baseman Kendrys Morales

May 15 (UPI) -- The New York Yankees announced Tuesday night they have acquired veteran first baseman Kendrys Morales from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for cash considerations.

Morales, 35, is hitting .204 with one home run and seven RBIs in 104 at-bats this season. He was designated for assignment by the Athletics Monday.

Oakland acquired Morales in a trade with the Blue Jays on March 27.

The Athletics will pay the remainder of Morales' $12 million salary this season.

The Yankees transferred starting pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga to the 60-day injured list to make space on the 40-man roster. Loasigia was placed on the injured list Monday with a right shoulder strain.

New York placed third baseman Miguel Andújar on the 10-day injured list with a right labrum tear in his shoulder earlier this week. Morales gives the Yankees another option at designated hitter with outfielders Aaron Judge (oblique) and Giancarlo Stanton (shoulder) still injured.

Morales is a career .267 hitter with 212 home runs in 13 seasons.
