May 15 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Twins have activated third baseman Miguel Sanó from the injured list after the 2017 All-Star completed a minor league rehab assignment for an Achilles injury.

Sanó, 26, sustained a laceration to his right Achilles during a celebration parade in his hometown of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, on Jan. 26.

Twins first-year manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters he's "extremely excited" to see Sanó play, according to MLB.com.

"I think he's even more excited than I am," Baldelli said.

In a corresponding move, the Twins placed catcher Mitch Garver on the 10-day injured list with a left high ankle sprain.

Sanó is a career .244 hitter with 84 home runs in 381 games. He hit 28 home runs and 77 RBIs in 2017 and helped the Twins to an appearance in the AL Wild Card Game.

Sanó slumped to a .199 average and 115 strikeouts in 299 at-bats last season.
