Colorado Rockies sign IF Daniel Murphy for $24M

Dec. 21 (UPI) -- The Colorado Rockies have signed veteran infielder Daniel Murphy.

A source told MLB.com that the contract is for two years and $24 million. Murphy, 33, hit .299 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs in 91 games last season for the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs.

The three-time All-Star began the season with the Nationals before being traded to the Cubs in August.

Murphy owns a .299 career batting average and has 122 home runs during his 10-year career for the New York Mets, Nationals and Cubs. The 2015 NLCS MVP has a .309 postseason batting average with eight home runs and 19 RBIs in 25 games.

The Rockies have yet to confirm the signing, which is pending a physical.
