Chicago Cubs sign INF Daniel Descalso to two-year pact

Dec. 18 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs have signed free agent infielder Daniel Descalso to a two-year contract.

Chicago announced the signing on Tuesday. The deal has a third-year option for 2021. Sources told MLB.com and The Athletic that the contract is worth $5 million.

Descalso, 32, hit .238 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs in 138 games last season for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He owns a career .240 batting average and has 46 career long balls during his nine-year MLB tenure.

The infielder's option for 2021 is worth $3.5 million. The Cubs can opt to buy him out of the contract for $1 million.
