Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox made a large pizza offering to the New York Yankees, but their American League East rivals had no plans to devour to dough.

Members of the Red Sox organization dropped off a large pile of pizzas on the sidewalk near Yankee Stadium during the gesture.

"Hope our friends in the Bronx enjoy these extra pineapple Hawaiian pizzas," the Red Sox tweeted Wednesday.

The Red Sox later posted a video of the pizza boxes still sitting in the same spot about three hours later.

"If you're wondering what happened to all these pizzas," the Red Sox tweeted.

The pizzas did feature extra pineapple, a no-no for pizza purists in the Big Apple.

Red Sox employees then took to the streets to hand out the free pizzas to people driving and walking by. The stunt was part of the Red Sox's annual social media effort "Gift of Sox."

The Yankees made no mention of the offering on social media. Boston posted a 10-9 record against New York in the 2018 season series.
